The prospects for the South African economy
are bright. The inflation rate is down,
the growth rate up. Classified as a
middle-income country, South Africa has a
per capita GDP of about US$3,000. It has a
vibrant financial sector with about 40
private banks operating in the country,
including some of the world's top names in
banking. However, after an era of economic
sanctions and isolation, the task of
economic reconstruction is indeed a
challenging one for South Africa.
