Johannesburg, the capital, Durban and Cape
Town are well connected to major cities
around the globe by direct and indirect
flights. The national carrier has direct
flights from Fort Lauderdale, New York,
Frankfurt, Zurich, London, Paris, Abidjan,
Accra, Lagos, Entebbe, Nairobi, Dar Es
Salaam, Luanda, Lusaka, Lilongwe, Blantyre,
Victoria Falls, Harare, Bulawayo,
Windhoek, Gaborone, Maputo, Mumbai,
Bangkok, Hongkong, Perth and Sydney to the
country. South Africa’s main airport,
the Johannesburg International Airport, is
30 km from Johannesburg and 60 km from
Pretoria.
Airport
buses to the SAA terminal run every 30
minutes and there are also services to and
from Pretoria. Several hotels provide
courtesy buses. Otherwise, taxis are a
ready and relatively inexpensive option.
There are also international airports at
Cape Town (about 20 km from the city) and
Durban (16 km).
By
Road
Bus companies offer services from
neighboring countries to South African
cities, for example, from Harare
(Zimbabwe) Windhoek (Namibia), Maputo
(Mozambique) and Lusaka (Zambia).
Motorists traveling from South Africa to
neighboring countries should contact the
Department of Home Affairs for details of
the opening and closing times of the
relevant border posts.

Train
The main train services to South Africa
are from Zimbabwe (there were till
recently two services from Zimbabwe –
the Bulawayo Express from Bulawayo
via Gaborone in Botswana to Jo’burg and
the Trans-Limpopo Express from
Harare - but they may have been stopped,
please check) and from Mozambique (from
Komatipoort).
